3.5 mm hook
200g DK yarn in:
Y: yellow
O: orange
W: white
A: other colour #1
B: other colour #2

Flip your project: if working on right side, switch to wrong side and vice versa, this prevents the granny square from twisting

Instructions
Granny square
Make 8.
Round 1: With O, make a magic circle and ch 3, 16 dc into the magic circle. Attach to first
ch3 with a sl and change color to Y.
• Round 2: With Y, ch 6, then tr into the space between the two dcs on the previous row, ch
2*, repeat instructions between *...* around, join to first ch4 with slip stitch, and change
color to A.
• Round 3: With A, ch 3, then 2 dc into two-chain space. Ch 1 then *3 dc into next 2-ch space,
ch 3*, repeat instructions between *...* 3 more times. 3 dc into next 2-ch space, ch1, 3dc
into next 2-ch space, ch1 and join to first ch 3 with sl.
• Round 4: Still with A, flip your project, ch 3 and 2 dc into next ch space, 3 dc into next ch
space, ch 3, *(3 dc in next ch space, ch 1) x5, ch 3*.repeat instructions between *...* 3 more
times. (3 dc in next ch space, ch 1) x3, join to first ch 3 with sl and change color to B.
• Round 5: With B, flip your project, ch 3 and 2 dc into next ch space, (3 dc into next ch
space, ch1) x3, ch 2, *(3 dc in next ch space, ch 1) x6, ch 3*.repeat instructions between
*...* 3 more times. (3 dc in next ch space, ch 1) x2, join to first ch 3 with sl.
• Round 6: Still with B, flip your project, ch 3 and 2 dc into next ch space, (3 dc into next ch
space, ch1) x2, ch 2, *(3 dc in next ch space, ch 1) x7, ch 3*.repeat instructions between
*...* 3 more times. (3 dc in next ch space, ch 1) x4, join to first ch 3 with sl and change to
C.
• Round 7: With C, flip your project, ch 6, skip the first ch space, dc in next ch space, ch 3.
(dc in next ch space, ch 3) x3, dc in same ch space, ch 3. *(dc in next ch space, ch 3) x7, dc
in same ch space, ch 3*, repeat instructions between *...* 3 more times. (dc in next ch space,
ch 3) x3, join to first ch 3 with sl, change to D.
• Round 8: With D, sl into the first chain, ch 3, dc into ch space, ch2. (2 dc into next ch space,
ch 2) x4, ch1. *(2 dc into next ch space, ch 2) x9, ch 1*, repeat instructions between *...* 3
more times. (2 dc into next ch space, ch 2) x4, join to first ch 3 with sl. Fasten off.
Attaching the squares
Attach all the granny squares two by two, then following the diagrams at the bottom of the page (click the arrows on the diagrams to see the next one):
• Attach these pairs as shown in red
Shoulder Straps
Still using the diagrams at the bottom of the page:
• With stitch markers, mark these two points on the project (shown in green)
• *sl in one of these points, ch a chain 18cm/7” long, and join to the second point with a sl.
• Ch 2, and hdc back along the chain you just made, sl into the first point again, Fasten off.*
• Repeat instructions between ** for the next set of green points in the diagrams at the bottom of the page
With D, join to the border with a sl, and sc around to tidy up the edges, including the shoulder straps.
With W, join tassels along the bottom of the project in every ch-2 space and in between the
pairs of dcs on the last row of the granny squares.
Weave in ends.
