Rows
Special rows are used in this pattern.
Random basketweave (RBW): Ch2 (does not count as st), hdc in first st. Alternate between 2 fpdc sts and 2 bpdc sts randomly until the end of the row, hdc in last st. You can use a coin flipper to choose whether to do fpdc or bpdc next. I associated bpdc with tails and fpdc with heads.
Inverse basketweave (IBW): Ch 2 (does not count as st), hdc in first st. If the stitch in the previous row was a fpdc, work a bpdc, and vice versa. hdc in last st.
Every odd numbered row (1, 3, 5 …) is worked in Random basketweave (RBW).
Every even numbered row (2, 4, 6 …) is worked in Inverse basketweave (IBW).
For a basic corset, you can replace RBW/IBW with [Ch2, hdc along, turn] and replace all fp/bp dcs with hdcs.
Simple decrease row: Work the appropriate basketweave along *until 2 sts before the side marker. Work 2 fp/bphdctog (fp or bp depending on the row)*. Repeat ** at the second side marker.
Simple increase row: Work the appropriate basketweave along *until 2 sts before the side marker. Work 2 fp/bpdctog in each of the next 2 sts (fp or bp depending on the row)*. Repeat ** at the second side marker.
Chest decrease row: Work the appropriate basketweave along *until 4 sts before the breast marker. Work 4 fp/bpdctog over the next 8 sts (fp or bp depending on the row)*. Repeat ** at the second breast marker.
Gauge: 20 stitches and 15 rows = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm)
Never work a stitch into a slip stitch.
Move all of the stitch markers up every row. If the stitch above is an inc, place the marker on the stitch closest to the middle of the project.
Project is worked flat, flip at row change.
