Project is worked in rows, bottom up, then as described by the arrows:

If the waist is becoming too tight, replace a decrease row with a (hdc along) row, and do the same for an equal amount of increase rows.

Unfortunately, this pattern does not take into account the possibility of the waist being larger than the bust.

Gauge

21 sts x 18 rows of hdc = 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”)

All pieces are worked in main colour and with a 3.5mm hook (or hook required to obtain gauge) unless specified otherwise.

Special rows

Chest increase row: Ch 1, turn, hdc until a stitch before the marker, hdc inc in stitch before the marker, hdc in marked st, hdc inc on st after the marker. Repeat for the second marker. Move markers up (to the st worked in marked st) as you go.

Button placket

With larger hook.

For the right-hand side, RS facing: join yarn at the bottom and work up towards the collar

For the left-hand side, RS facing: join yarn at the top and work down towards the hem

In order to evenly space the stitches, I recommend marking the ¼, ½ and ¾ lengths along the placket and putting 25 stitches between each

Row 1: sc 100 stitches evenly along, turn, ch 1 (100) - if you can’t get exactly 100, it doesn’t matter

Rows 2-6: sc along, turn, ch 1 (100)

If the blouse is too tight around the chest, you can make the placket wider by repeating row 6 as many times as necessary.

Row 7: sc along (100)

Finish off.

Collar

Join yarn at the front right, RS facing, on the edge of the third row from the edge of the Button Placket.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc 86 [90, 94, 98, 104] evenly around the collar (stopping at the edge of the third row from the edge of the button placket of the other side), turn, ch 1 (86 [90, 94, 98, 104])

It may take a few attempts to get the exact stitch count. I recommend marking the halfway/quarter-way points to help spread the stitches.

Row 2: Slst 1, in BLO (this makes the collar “stand up”), sc around, leaving last st unworked, turn, ch 1 (84 [88, 92, 96, 102])

Rows 3-6: sc along, turn, ch 1 (84 [88, 92, 96, 102])

Row 7: dec, sc 80 [84, 88, 92, 98], dec, turn ch 1 (82 [86, 90, 94, 100])

Row 8: dec, sc 78 [82, 86, 90, 96], dec, turn ch 1 (80 [84, 88, 92, 98])

Row 9: dec, sc 76 [80, 84, 88, 94], dec, turn ch 1 (78 [82, 86, 90, 96])

Row 10: dec, sc 74 [78, 82, 86, 92], dec (76 [80, 84, 88, 94])

Finish off.

Arms

Repeat for each arm.

Begin the left side on the WS and the right side on the RS for best results.

As this is very fitted, I recommend trying on the piece after every decrease row. If it is tight enough for your arm before row 42 - bearing in mind the piece will decrease again at the cuff - simply replace any further decrease rows with (hdc along, sl st to first st, ch 1, turn).

Join yarn at the bottom middle of the armpit.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc 90 [96, 100, 106, 110] evenly around. Join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (90 [96, 100, 106, 110])

Row 2: (sc 8, dec) x3, hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 8), join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (86 [92, 96, 102, 106])

Row 3: (sc 7, dec), hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 7) x3, join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (82 [88, 92, 98, 102])

Row 4: (sc 6, dec) x3, hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 6), join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (78 [84, 88, 94, 98])

Row 5: (sc 5, dec), hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 5) x3, join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (74 [80, 84, 90, 94])

Row 6: (sc 4, dec) x3, hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 4), join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (70 [76, 80, 86, 90])

Row 7: (sc 3, dec), hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 3) x3, join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (66 [72, 76, 82, 86])

Row 8: (sc 2, dec) x3, hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 2), join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (62 [68, 72, 78, 82])

Row 9: (sc 1, dec), hdc 50 [56, 60, 66, 70], (dec, sc 1) x3, join to first st with a slst, ch 1, turn (58 [64, 68, 74, 78])

Edging and embroidery

Join contrast coloured yarn at the bottom right-hand side of the Button placket, RS facing.

Ch 1 and sc evenly up the Button placket, around the edge of the Collar and down the other side of the Button placket. Put 3sc in each corner for an even finish. Finish off.

With contrast coloured yarn, surface single crochet between rows 3-4 of the right side of the Button placket, continue on to the Collar, working between the 3rd and 4th row away from the edge, then continue down the left hand side between rows 3-4 of the right side of the Button placket. Finish off.

On each side of the Button placket in contrast colour: embroider a straight line running parallel to the edge, along row 1 of the Button placket.

Between this line and the edge, embroider regular zig-zags (4 sts between each tip)

On the collar in contrast colour, embroider a line running parallel to the edge of the collar.

Between this line and the edge, embroider regular zig-zags (4 sts between each tip)
